2013: Girl Bye.

How in the world have 365 days gone by so quickly?? I can still remember signing up for my dreaded Finance class in January!

Honestly, I’m so happy this year is coming to a close. 2013 has been a year of regrets, high hopes, laughter, tons of tears and pretty much every other emotion under the sun. I’ve had great times this year and met some great people, but man am I ready for a change.

At the beginning of this year if you told me I would be back in my home town unemployed after graduation, I would have looked at you like you were crazy. I assumed my personality and recommendations from my past employer about my work ethic, would get me an entry level job. Little did I know, my choice of careers is all about who you know, not what you know. It’s also a “work your butt off balancing school, work, and internships” kind of thing and sadly I only focused on two of those.

2013 has taught me that life doesn’t go how you plan it but it goes by God’s plan for you. And while you may not understand why something is happening to you, you have to understand that it’s all happening for a reason. That alone has been my biggest obstacle to overcome this year and I’m still working on it.

As I say farewell to 2013, there are a few things I hope to accomplish before this day next year.

#MusicMonday: Drake & Beyonce.

Beyonce, Drake

I originally planned to do a “Fav singles of 2013” list today but after I heard a Bey and D’Angelo mashup and got a double dose of Drake’s new songs, I had a new plan.

If you know me you know I LOVE GOOD MUSIC, so let’s get into it.

Back in September of this year, Mr. Soft Ghetto released his third album Nothing Was the Same. A track called Trophies that he previewed in a video trailer for his new album, didn’t quite make it on the album. But alas my pretties, Drake has finally given you what you’ve been waiting for.

And In case you missed it, in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday he released a remix to Soulja Boy’s song “We Made It” (SN: Where the devil has that child been??)While the song is pretty hot, the delivery reminds me three much of Migos ‘Versace’. WOMP!

Check out both tracks below and let me know which one is your fav.

Now prepare your ears for greatness.

Ya’ll know I love Queen Bey, right? If you remember shortly after releasing her fifth album she previewed it on iTunes radio and discussed each song. On Rocket she said, “Rocket is one of the (more) sensual songs, it reminds me of the vibe I got when I first heard D’Angelo’s Untitled.” Well Mashup King, JAYBeatz must have taken that comment and ran with it because he did what he does best and created a mashup with both songs. Talk about an eargasm!!! Just press play and tell me it how much it makes you want to smoke a cigarette after.

5 Songs to Get You in The Christmas Spirit.

Tragically Florida has decided not to participate in winter this year so I haven't really been in the Christmas spirit. WOMP! Thanks to a few old school tunes, I start reminiscing about those times during my childhood when the house was decorated in red & green garland and there were multicolored lights around the tree.
In my family we had a pretty soulful Christmas, but I also grew up during the late 90's/early 00's pop era so you can guess what I was listening to during the holidays. Lol Check out a few of my favs below.

Mariah Carey- All I Want For Christmas is You
  • If this song doesn't make you want to go outside and make snow angels or have a snow fight with your family then I don't know what will. This album is actually really great but this song alone screams Christmas to me.

Luther Vandross- Mistletoe Jam
  • Luther put his foot in this one! It makes me want to get up and do the electric slide. Just click play and tell me if I'm wrong.

Quad City DJ's- 12 Ghetto Days of Christmas
  • For as long as I can remember, every year on Dec. 1 the local urban radio station, 102 JAMZ (RIP :( ), would always play this hood Christmas classic. To this day, I bankhead bounce, Cabbage Patch and do I nice little two step to this jam.

N'SYNC- Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

#MusicMonday: Pia Mia.

Who doesn’t love new music? Well, today Miss @PrincessPiaMia released her EP, The Gift.

If you’ve seen Keeping Up With the Kardashians, you may remember Pia as the girl who helped Kylie and Kendall write a song for Mama Kris to help ease her public bathroom insecurities.

I’m all about good music and this EP is great! It’s like Rihanna and Katy Perry had a music baby! Lol. Not to mentions most of these beats alone make you want to “shake somethin’ for 10 wings and fries” (s/o to Tom G)!

Go ahead and get your life to Miss Pia’s EP below:

#ICYMI: Another 'Yonce Weekend.

Last week the Creole Princess released her fifth studio album and seriously had the whole world losing their edges from excitement! If you were on any form of social media then your timelines, dashboards and newsfeeds were filled with Bey ALL WEEKEND. Welp, Mrs. Carter’s is back again this weekend with more ‘Yonce fun!

Following her concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Friday, Queen Bey held a private album release party at the best adult Chuck E. Cheese place around: Dave & Buster’s. From the looks of her Instagram it seems like she had a ton of fun. Congrats, girl!

Beyonce

Sometime last week, Target announced that they will not carry Bey’s self titled album in their stores. That is when I believe her team started plotting, honey. Those folks at BeyHive HQ are geniuses I swear, because they decided to put her album in select Starbucks locations in the U.S. Where are many Starbucks coffehouses located you asked? That’s right, inside Target stores!!!! (*Trina laugh* Bye Felicia!)

She then went to a Walmart in Massachusetts and gifted $50 gift cards to everyone in the store!! Listen to her announcement to those lucky Walmart shoppers below.

And that my friends wasn’t even the last of it. During Saturday Night Live, a commercial for her new album aired, but instead of ending with “buy on iTunes” it ended with “available at Walmart”. LMBO!!! That is some of the best shade throwing I’ve seen in a while! I seriously love her team and everything they’re doing.

On a serious note though,Target needs to stop being Bitter Betty’s by refusing to stock albums because they

The Tweet Read 'Round the World: Justine Sacco.

If this story could have a theme song, my vote would go towards Alanis Morissette’s “Ironic” because it best describes this entire situation.

*cues music*

"It’s like a PR vet tweeting something racist….and isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?" LOL!

Meet Miss Justine Sacco, director of corporate communications at InterActiveCorp (or IAC, which is a company that owns Ask.com, OkayCupid, Match.com, and many other sites) tweeted something very unfortunate to her followers on Friday.

Now, through 3 months of job searching, I know that one needs at least 7-10+ years of experience in order to have a senior position in a company. I also know that social media is still kind of new, but what I seriously CAN NOT understand is why she:
A) Was using that account as a personal account.

B) Thought being white made her exempt from getting AIDS.

C) Hadn’t been caught sooner for her other questionable tweets.
I could be wrong but I don’t think Twitter is a place a senior PR pro working for a company should have a personal PUBLIC account. Because Justine didn’t find her tweet offensive enough to delete, by the time she was on her flight to South Africa the world was in an uproar on Twitter.

It’s like I was watching the Truman Show. but this incident was a real version of that movie— just knowing that a person’s life has changed except for them was really unbelievable.

IAC, of course, was not here for any of what Justine said and issued a statement saying they would “handle the issue appropriately.”

So while the world waited, #HasJustineLandedYet was born. GlobalGrind put together some of the best of those tweets, and a few of my favs are below.

#TBT: Scandal.

Although its only been a week, am I the only one going through a Scandal withdrawal?? Lol I seriously have no idea how I’m going to make it until Feb. 27.

Since its so hard to say goodbye (at least for now), I’d like to dedicate today’s post to the PHENOMENAL performance given by Poppa Pope/Eli/Byron in last week’s episode. The scene where he read Fitz for filth gave his monologue made the entire episode for me. Even after all the drama with Mama Pope and Quinn’s stupid self, I was STILL trying to regain composure from Poppa Pope’s words.

Take a look at this clip below and get your life. It’s sooo worth it.

Best of Black Twitter 2013.

Last week Global Grind posted a list of Black Twitter’s best moments from this year. If you’re wondering what Black Twitter is, it’s basically Black Americans on Twitter who tweet about important topics within the black community and occasionally tweet parody like tweets whenever BS has been detected on Twitter. (I hope that makes sense lol)

I for one could not wait to see Black Twitter snap back whenever companies or celebs messed up this year. Take a peek of a few of my favorite moments below:

1. #AskRKelly
I’m not really sure who in the Sam Hill told R. Kelly that this would be a good idea but I hope they feel awful about suggesting it.

2. #PaulasBestDishes
After the Paula Deen racism incident this summer, Black Twitter took full advantage of this opportunity to rename dishes they thought Deen might like. (HA!)

3. #ArmaniCaptions
Giorgio Armani made the most epic failiest (yes I just made that up) of fails ever after they posted a photo of Alfre Woodard but captioned it as “Idris Elba posing in a gorgeous Giorgio Armani dress” -_________- I’m going to assume that it was nothing more than a simple mix up

Year of the Bey.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, on Friday Dec.13 Beyonce released her long awaited fifth studio album, simply titled ‘Beyonce’. It’s described as a visual album and includes 14 songs and 17 videos.

What’s so amazing about this release is that she was able to keep it a secret!! There was no promotion for the album at all!!! No interviews, no sneak peek album cover, no cryptic Twitter/Instagram messages, NOTHING! Even the people involved with the album or videos didn’t say anything. For this reason, and more, is why I believe Beyonce is having the best year EVER!

In January, Beyonce sang the national anthem at President Obama’s second inauguration and after 234567 years, we were blessed with new music from Destiny’s Child. The trio released an album titled Love Songs that featured some DC3 classics but also featured a new song— “Nuclear”.

In February, Bey shut the Super Bowl down with her half time performance which resulted in a power outage. It’s like she literally gathered all of the energy from that building and used it to perform a phenomenal halftime show. I’m not mad at you, girl! That same night, she announced that she would be going on world tour— The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. The next week “Love on Top”, from her fourth studio album, won her a well deserved Grammy. By Feb. 16, she was sitting down with Auntie Oprah for an interview that shed light on her life and the many hats  crowns she wears daily. Following that interview, her documentary Life is But a Dream aired on HBO.

By April, she began her world tour and was also featured in H&M’s 2013 Summer Collection ads.The

#MusicMonday: Justin Bieber.

It seems as if Justin Bieber is trying to get us to realize he is not a kid anymore. Bieber released new music every Monday for 10 weeks beginning on Oct. 7. His new music is pretty ‘grown and sexy’ and is heavily influenced by R&B. Bieber was even able to snag the Pied Piper on a track titled ‘PYD’.

Although JB hasn’t been in the news for many good reasons recently, the songs from his #MusicMondays series are a bucket full of awesomeness.  This new music leads up to his upcoming movie Believe 3D, which will be in theaters on Christmas day.

These tracks are definitely not like anything you’ve heard from the pop star before. Peep what Bieber’s been working on below:
  1. Heartbreaker

  2. All That Matters

  3. Hold On Tight

  4. Recovery

  5. Bad Day

  6. All Bad

  7. PYD ft. R. Kelly

  8. Roller Coaster

  9. Change Me

  10. Confident ft. Chance the Rapper
According to Billboard.com, this music will be added to a collection called “Complete My Journals” which will feature five others songs with artists including Lil Wayne, Future, Big Sean and Diplo. Complete My Journals will be available on iTunes today until January 2, 2014.

I like what you’re up to Bieber. Let’s just get that attitude/behavior together so you can be great with this music of yours, because I’m here for it!!

Update!

After about a year I have finally updated my blog. I figured I would use take this time to document post grad life and other interesting things that may come up in the news. I’m just really excited to finally use this blog again. :)
