For those who
reminisce on the good old days when music videos had a theme and
story, you should be rejoicing over two ladies who gave us lewks and
visuals this week. Thursday Doja Cat dropped the video for, Juicy, from her debut album Amala. Sis did not disappoint with this video. It had Lil’ Kim “Crush on You” vibes written all over it. To keep it even more “juicy”
Doja dressed as different fruit with the watermelon look being the
most impressive of her ‘fits. Sis even gave the app Fruit Ninja some promo, and as an added surprise Tyga
graced us with his presence and a verse!<br />

Today, Fifth
Harmony’s melanated member Normani took us back to the early 2000’s
with a video to "Motivation". She opens with a very relatable scene of young 'Mani sitting in front of the TV watching Rosci and Terrance J on BET’s <strike>best show</strike> 106 & Park. Her grandma in the background saying "Normani, stop making all that noise" (more confirmation that all black folks grew up the same) and when the eat drops she lovingly says "Do your thing, girl". If literally transforming into your favs fav Beyonce in "Crazy in Love" off rip doesn't get you hype, she also
gave us looks from J. Lo’s “I’m Real” and a memorable dance
scene from “Touch” by Omarion. Nicki tried to tell us Normani was
“that bitch” and people still slept on her, but the internets are making sure she’s never slept on again!<br />

With so many
millennial's and Gen-Zer’s missing the 99’s and 2000’s, the
music video streets need to give the people what they want and that’s
a quality stan- producing visual! Luckily there's a new era of directors and artists who appreciate the music video art form and have us saying bye to the days of videos with no substance, ushering in a new wave. </div>

"GIVE MISSY HER THINGS!" <br />
<br />
Any devout listener of pop culture podcast <a href="https://soundcloud.com/theread/unbreak-my-hart#t=5:08" target="_blank">The Read</a> has heard Kid Fury say this a number of times. Both he and co-host Crissle have advocated for Missy Elliott to receive MTV's Video Music Award for <a href="https://soundcloud.com/theread/da-hee#t=1:29:22">years</a> now. Finally the Viacom network has heard our cry and agreed to give Missy her things. <br />

When you think about the creativity and innovation of music videos, if
Melissa 'Misdemeanor' Elliott isn't in your top five you must've been living under a rock and need to come out to play. Missy's futuristic style has confirmed for many that she actually has a time machine and comes back to create these fire visuals. But she's not only been a pioneer when it comes to music videos, she's also a very dope writer and producer. Making hits for all your favs like Destiny's Child, *NSYNC, 702, and most notably Aaliyah. With all the features and singles she's done there's no doubt this performance will be amazing! <br />
<br />
In preparation for the big night of the awards show, which is slated to air Monday, August 26, here are three of Missy's underrated videos that should've had her on MTV's radar years ago!<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Sock It To Me (1997)</span></li>
</ul>
<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9UvBX3REqSY" width="560"></iframe><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">She's a Bitch (1999)</span></li>
</ul>
<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/opkRF3UZSJw" width="560"></iframe><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Beep Me 911</span></li>
</ul>
<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cWHicFCKxVE" width="560"></iframe><br />
<br />
<br />
Honorable Mention(s): <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phmelzh0VJc">Pass That Dutch</a> (2003) and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYKI8tAELXY">Gossip Folks</a> (2002)<br />
<br />
Just for old time sake, dancer and former Disney Channel star Alyson Stoner <i>NEEDS</i>
to make an appearance and show out one time for the one time. She's
already done a tribute to Missy in 2015 and uploaded it to her <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEOo311_yts">Youtube channel</a>!<br />
<br />
Whatever does come from this performance for the G.O.A.T. will be "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYExg7T-MCM">Really Hot</a>"and like she sang in the aforementioned song, "...I won't stop 'cause I'm killin' 'em" and she's right. Killin' 'em now and then, Miss!<br />
<br />

On this episode of "Brea's Late with Artists" we take a look at electronic r&b trio, Lolawolf.<br />
<br />
Lol but seriously, the band members consist of: James Levy, Jimmy Giannopoulos, and...Zoe Kravitz? YES! From her films to her style, I'm here for all things Zoe Kravitz! I'm still trying to figure out how I didn't know the Princess of 'I-Do-What-I-Want-And-Regret-Nothing' (because we all know her mom is queen) was in a band?? <br />
<br />
I recently started following her on Instagram and noticed that she kept talking about being on tour, so I headed on over to Youtube and got to searching. Now I'm not sure what I thought Zoe's voice would sound like over a
beat, but I wasn't expecting what I heard. I guess I thought she'd
have a LOT of struggle notes but she sounds great to me. But then again,
her dad is <strike>extremely fine</strike> Lenny Kravitz and her mom is Lisa Bonet. Both are very talented people, so of course she was born to be great!<br />
<br />
The band's music is definitely different than what's being played on the radio now and if you aren't open to listening to different types of music, you may be quick to dismiss it (Kind of like how I am when my friend tries to force me to listen to K-Pop. I just can't seem to get jiggy with that stuff). For comparison sake, their sound is similar to Santigold or even M.I.A.! <br />
<br />
"Summertime" and "Jimmy Franco" were a couple of the first songs I heard from the group. Both are super fun and make me wish I would've heard them sooner. Especially "Summertime", that could've been my anthem this past summer but there's always next year :) And let me not even get into the cuteness that is the "Jimmy Franco" video (which features ASAP Rocky as her leading man). I always wonder how people have such great chemistry in music videos and don't even be into each other like that. But for those 3 minutes and 18 seconds, they sure fooled me. Check out both songs below!! <br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Well, I'm back!...at least for the remainder of this year. I have <b>so</b> much to update you all on, but I'll wait for Wednesday's post for those deets.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Anywho, I thought I'd come back on this glorious Monday to expose you all to the wonderfulness that is BANKS. As usual, I'm late to the party when it comes to a few artists but I'm always happy I've discovered them. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The LA native has such a chill type of sound and t</span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">he credible sources over at Wikipedia list it as triphop-like</span> (apparently this is a genre that dates back to the 90's). She cites <a href="http://www.spin.com/articles/banks-fall-over-song-stream/" target="_blank">Lauryn Hill and Fiona Apple</a> as a few of her musical influences and also released her debut album 'Goddess' back in September.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The first song I heard from her was "Goddess" and I immediately wanted to know more about this artist and why I hadn't heard about her sooner. Naturally, I went to Spotify and listened to everything that was available there. After an intense music sesh, I came to the conclusion that BANKS is my fav and I want her to be your fav as well! Check out the lyric video to "Goddess" below. </span>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I’m so sad that
this is my last post in our summer collab series! It was a ton of fun
and I enjoyed sharing my knowledge with all of you, and I hope you
enjoyed it as well. </span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Now, this last post will feature something that
is very important: writing thank you notes. In the digital age that
we live in, most people send a quick email to show their thanks, but
it is much more thoughtful when you take the time to actually hand write a
note. </span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Write a thank you note to your supervisor and anyone who you’ve
shadowed. First you should buy a set of thank you cards that is
sophisticated, but shows a little of your personality. Or if you are
really talented, feel free to make your own. Next, start the note off
by thanking the person for helping make your internship experience a
great one. Then, mention something that the two of you talked about
that really stuck with you. For example, if they gave you some good
advice about your major, then mention that. Or if they taught you
something, mention that. Just mention anything (that’s positive)
that was memorable to you.
</span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As far as handing
them out, what I plan to do is give them to the receptionist on my
last day, then have her hand them out the next day. This way it will
be sort of a surprise to receive a thank you card from me. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Good luck with the remaining time in your internship! If you have any
questions regarding your summrt internships, feel free to leave a comment or tweet me at <a href="http://www.twitter.com/tiatamjam" target="_blank">@tiatamjam</a> using the hashtag

Due to school, and most recently my post grad job search struggle, my funds always seem to be a little too low to go.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">For us financially challenged folk, I've decided to compile a list of other fun activities we can complete this summer! <span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRujUZ6is5vcBGNumHnHNiTFHUkF89nfC3o_biv0v3uGwxjoIC0nXCoLGLE-Kd-aMSlcg_Ql2EJEuaMMKOEYJxUZWOQFbuS70ku9LBN4O44ZXs1UK4YB6QImkKLrSXFAomG6dtsCrqyn4/s1600/tumblr_n8rekssGgd1qg4cmpo1_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRujUZ6is5vcBGNumHnHNiTFHUkF89nfC3o_biv0v3uGwxjoIC0nXCoLGLE-Kd-aMSlcg_Ql2EJEuaMMKOEYJxUZWOQFbuS70ku9LBN4O44ZXs1UK4YB6QImkKLrSXFAomG6dtsCrqyn4/s1600/tumblr_n8rekssGgd1qg4cmpo1_500.jpg" height="227" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So far you had an
informational interview, learned about something new at the office,
and now it is time to ask for a letter of recommendation. Letters of
recommendation are very important when it comes to applying for jobs
because on a resume, everyone just lists their previous work
experience and then tries to jazz up the wording on what they
accomplished. The problem is this only shows the future employer a
biased view of what <i>you</i> say you accomplished, but when you
have a letter of recommendation, it makes you more credible. </span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It's
similar to when you are shopping online; let’s say you are looking
for a new dress and you're trying to choose between two options. The
first option has no customer reviews and the second has reviews
stating how great of a dress it is. Now, you’re more likely to
choose the second option because you know the store wants to sell, so
having the reviews helps you choose.</span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">You're probably
wondering who to ask to write your letter, or how to ask them. You
should choose someone with whom you have worked closely with or has
witnessed the type of work you did, like a supervisor, mentor, or
manager. When approaching them, make sure to do it at a time when
they aren’t swamped and do so in a respectful manner. You can say
something along the lines of “I’ve been enjoying my internship
experience so far, and I’ve learned a lot. Since you are </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">someone
whom I’ve worked closely with, I would like to know if you would
consider writing a letter of recommendation for me.” If they say
yes, or no, remember to thank them.</span><br />
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">If you know your
performance at your internship wasn’t your best, it probably is
best to not ask for a letter of recommendation and instead ask for a
performance evaluation. Ask what it is that you can improve on and
what is some advice they would give you.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">By now, you should
be around the halfway point of your internship. Congrats! You made it
this far, and now all you have to do is make sure these last few
weeks are meaningful. </span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">One way you can do that is by learning
something new or doing something that you have yet to do at the
office. Let’s say that you are working in the financial industry,
but aren’t sure how the stock market works. Ask someone (when they
don’t look too busy) if they can give you a brief overview of how
it works, and maybe some tips on investing. Or if you work in the
advertising industry but aren’t the greatest at Adobe Creative
Suite, ask someone if they can give you some tips. My point is if
there is something that you would like to know about the industry
that you are interning in, ask someone. Chances are someone may give
you advice that you won’t be able to find in any textbook.
</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">
</span>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">On the other hand,
if there is something that you like to do, or a skill that you
possess that is relevant to what happens in the office, ask your
supervisor if you can do more of those tasks. For me, I prefer making
PowerPoint presentations and doing more hands on tasks, so I let my
mentor and supervisor know, and now I am able to do more of those
tasks. As you can tell the theme of this post is about speaking out
and making your internship about more than just doing mundane tasks
and to treat it as a learning experience. </span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Many students complain that
they didn’t learn or do anything significant during their
internships, and that’s because they didn’t reach out. So now
that you know this information, go ahead and make the rest of your
internship worthwhile! </span></div>
<div class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Summer has officially started and one event that always seems to scream "it's Summertime!!" is music festivals. For those who are wishing to attend one of these exciting festivals, social media never lets us down as we can always live vicariously through those who are able to attend (again, one of the reason why I love the internets). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Now there are many festivals taking place this summer, but I've narrowed them down to five that, I guess, are my personal favs. If you're favorite festival didn't make the list, please let me know. I'm definitely down to learn about new events! </span><br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> On the first day of your internship, you were probably introduced to everyone in the office, but now you realize that you only talk to a small number of the same people everyday. Internships are about expanding your professional network, so before your internship ends take the time to get to know someone new and learn more about their position at the company and how they got there. While it would be nice to interview someone who is in a similar position you would like to be in, it really doesn't matter who it is, because you never know what connection someone may have, or you may discover a new career path.<br /> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">When you've picked the person whom you would like to interview (you can interview more than one person), reintroduce yourself to them and tell them you would like to know more about them and what it is that they do. You can say something along the lines of:</span></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> "Hello, I know that we were introduced on the first day, but since then I haven't had the opportunity to interact with you, so I would like to know if, one day, when you aren't busy I could talk with you to learn more about your position here at the company."</span></blockquote>
</blockquote>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Notice that I didn't add "informational interview" because you don't want the person to feel like this is a formal interview and she or he will be grilled with questions because that is not what it is. This is more of having a conversation with someone, getting to know them, while having a few guiding questions in the back of your mind. Some questions to consider asking are: </span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">How did you get started in this industry/ company?</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">What are some of the biggest changes that you've noticed in the industry?</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">What steps do you recommend I take in order to be successful in this industry? </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">What are some of the things you do on an everyday basis?</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">What do you think is unique about your job?</span></li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Again, don't treat this like a format interview and have a list of questions that you are reading off of, but do keep those questions in mind, and, if you're like me then maybe bring a pen and paper to write down anything important.<br /> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">At the end of the interview, remember to thank them for their time, and ask for their business card so that you can keep in touch. Also, pick up a thank you card and send a hand written note, trust me they will appreciate it more than an email.<br /><b><i> </i></b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>If you've done an informational interview or have any questions. Share them with me on Twitter @tiatamjam and be sure to use the hashtag <span style="color: magenta;">#workandplay </span></i></b></span></div>

very helpful to talk to people and get a feel for their experiences and
challenges, but at the end of the day you'll be making the decisions
for your business -- and you need to follow what you think is best. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Anna Taylor is not your typical 23-year-old. The college grad is the editor-in-chief and founder of online magazine Pink & Black</span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span>. Focused on inspiring</span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="color: black;"> 20-something women to grow and become better versions of themselves in
all aspects of life</span>, P&B is sure to become your new favorite site (if it isn't already). </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">In this interview, Anna discusses her proudest moment involving P&B, the inspiration behind choosing the name, and when you can expect new content on their site! </span></div>

<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Brea: You started Pink & Black while in college, what was that process like?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Anna:</b> I really think that was the best
time I could have ever started it because college is such a
motivating time. Everyone is very career driven and energized and
creative--and I was too! There was a specific type of career
experience I was searching for when I started college and Pink &
Black ultimately gave me that sense of fulfillment. When I started
Pink & Black, I really didn’t have any expectations for it to
become what it is today but I put a lot of hours between and after
classes, after work at my campus newspaper and between anything else
I had going on into it. I’ll even admit that there were many days
when I used Pink & Black to procrastinate instead of studying or
finishing homework, especially near the end of college because I kept
developing new features and grew a bigger presence on social media.
I’m proud of all the work I did on it but I really should have
gotten out more. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<ul>
<li>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: What inspired you to choose the
name of your magazine?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>A:</b> There really isn’t much of a
story behind the name, sadly. I had an untitled project that I really
wanted to start and while working on it one day, I had my iTunes
library on shuffle. A song called “Pink and Black” started
playing and for some reason, it stood out to me. Since then, the
brand has sort-of been built around the name. I wouldn’t advise
anyone to name a project or business like that though because it
doesn’t always work. P&B is still coming around but let’s be
honest, pink is the best color to design anything with because it’s
so feminine and fun. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<ul>
<li>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: There are plenty of 20-something online magazines these days, how does P&B Mag stand out
from the rest?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>A:</b> There really are tons now! There
are a lot of factors in my mind that makes us stand out from the
rest, but I am and always will be biased. I think Pink & Black is
a really fun site for young women to keep coming back to. While the
content might not be all-exclusive, to me it’s a lot more
interesting than some of the most well-known sites for 20-something
women. Plus, we have a nice site design and we’re always adding
something new so it’s not the same experience every single time
someone visits, whether that’s new features or something extra on
the site. </span>

fun guide for young women getting their start into adulthood, by
women dealing with the same struggles, hardships and awesome
experiences. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<ul>
<li>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: As editor-in-Chief, what
challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>A:</b> Believe it or not, I face many
challenges working virtually. My biggest challenge has really been
realizing that I can’t do everything myself. This is honestly a new
development that I was recently advised on and really, it makes sense
because no matter what someone’s title is or where someone works,
they can’t do everything and maintain a healthy and successful
operation. As a result of that, I’m dividing some of my
responsibilities out among other editors, hiring more writers and
assistants. </span></div>
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I was also thinking the other day about how nice it would
be to hire and pay someone to work as my personal assistant to help
with emails, documents and general organization so I can spend more
time working on big projects. That would be the best thing ever so
I’m not going to completely forget about that idea. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Another challenge: time management
between work and life. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<ul>
<li>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: What has been your proudest
moment involving P&B?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>A:</b> I’ve had several! The proudest
was probably when I shared it with people in my life for the first
time. There hasn’t been a single person I’ve shown it to who
hasn’t been impressed with it. That’s a really good feeling. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<ul>
<li>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: Where do you see P&B in the
next few years?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>A:</b> I see Pink & Black offering
more than just written content. One of my goals is to implement video
use on the site, and I have strategies and ideas for that but lack
the technology and availability for it to be at a certain standard
yet. I also see P&B becoming a more profitable brand and I’d
love to eventually see a site redesign that I create. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<ul>
<li>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: What 3 pieces of advice would
you give someone looking to start their own business/company?</b></span></li>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>1. Start right now!</i></b>
The sooner you start, the quicker you can grow and continue to build
on your brand.</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>2. Do it for the right
reasons.</i></b> It’s so
silly but I’ve heard or read about people saying they want to
start a business strictly because they think it’s something that
will make them a lot of money. Put some passion behind it. Start a
business that you’re genuinely interested in and it will strive. </span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">

<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i><b>3. You get out of it what you
put into it.</b></i> This
could be advice for just about anything in life but if you’re not
willing to spend extended hours on your business and a few dollars
here and there, don’t expect it to be a major success. Set your
standards high and never stop looking for ways to make it better. </span>
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: I saw a tweet stating that P&B

hiring a new writer?</b></span></li>

</span>
<br />
<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>A:</b> Passion! That’s 100% what I look
for in an applicant because I want P&B’s staff to honestly be
interested and dedicated to their work and ours. Good writing and
experience is also a plus and I always appreciate people who say
they’re a fan of the magazine because, well, I’m a fan of it too.

<div style="background: #ffffff; line-height: d%; margin-bottom: 0.02in; margin-top: 0.02in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>A:</b> This question is so hard! I think
“<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyeoW4ifNik" target="_blank">Everybody Got Their Something</a>” by Nikka Costa is a good one.
It’s a fun song about finding and being yourself. </span>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Social media can be hard to navigate when you’re a new entrepreneur. There are a lot of platforms, and they all function differently. How do you know which one to pick, how often to interact, and which platforms to stay off of? </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">As a copywriter, I’m really diligent and purposeful about what I choose to put on social media. My Twitter feed is basically a huge billboard for my business, so I keep that in mind when posting. It’s important to share personality, but also to remain professional on social media. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Here are my top three tips for social media engagement for new entrepreneurs: </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1. <b>Pick three media platforms and stick with them.</b> My top three are Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. Commit to doing three, instead of 30, and you’ll get better results. You’re more able to focus efforts on fewer sources, which will keep you from getting burned out. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be on all the media platforms, all the time. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> 2. <b>Curate, Automate, Review. Rinse and Repeat.</b> Curate your content, and then use an </span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">automation assistant or platform to push your content to sites. (My favorite automation tool is <a href="http://www.bufferapp.com/" target="_blank">Buffer</a>.) Review your feeds after they post, and see which posts are getting the most engagement. That’s a good way to know what to keep writing, and what your customers/ audience is interested in.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">3. <b>Remain consistent, but don’t overshare.</b> I post about 14 times a day on Twitter, I post two or three times daily on Instagram, and I spend about 10 minutes a day updating Pinterest. The most important thing here is to make sure your presence is there, but it's not a nuisance. Oversharing (40 tweets, not counting @ replies) in a day is ridiculous. Shoot for one an <br />hour, during your business hours. If that seems like a lot starting out, try one every two hours. Watch your engagement soar!!! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>*Bonus:</b> Reply to your interactions! If someone likes a post, say thank you! If someone retweets, re-pins, or shares your content, thank them. A quick look at my replies feed will show you examples! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Most of all, have fun! Social media can be daunting, but it’s a great way to get more clients, to connect with your colleagues, and to share your brand with the world! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Due to keeping up with current events for my internship, I've been a frequent visitor to a ton of blogs lately. (I'd visit these blogs anyway, but I digress.) I noticed an artist, Sam Smith, being promoted on the sidebar of many of them. It wasn't until Saturday that I finally decided to give him a listen, and I'm so happy that I did.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This past weekend Mr. Smith stopped by SiriusXM Hits1 in New York and covered Whitney Houston's classic song, 'How Will I Know'. The 21-year old singer told <a href="http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/watch-sam-smith-cover-whitney-houstons-how-will-i-know-20140621" target="_blank">Rolling Stone</a> that it's <br />"A Whitney Houston song that makes me happy-- it's a feel-good song".</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">What I loved most is that Sam did an ACTUAL cover of the song and not just a "Sam Smith version" and called it a cover (like people do on Youtube *side eye*). Anyway, Sam slowed down the upbeat song and somehow also managed to get my friend in her feelings! Like many English artists, he has such an incredibly soulful voice! Check out Sam's cover below.</span><br />

<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Brea: When did you notice there should be an organization like RICHES available?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Nadine:</b> After college, I was fortunate enough to work for a
financial company where I encountered people with credit issues. I met a
lot of black young adults who lacked knowledge on building and maintaining
credit. It opened my eyes to the amount of black families who do not
understand how to attain good credit and who even sometimes fear it.
(Yes, there are people who fear credit!) During my experience and
research, I realized how credit issues, identity fraud, and the
apprehension of owning bank accounts are major issues in the black
community and plays a part in the racial wealth gap. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Our lack
of knowledge on not only credit management, but also financially
literacy, puts the black community at a disadvantage. And because we are
living in a time where it is harder to obtain credit than it has been
since its creation, I grew a desire to break a cycle by educating black
young adults on building and managing credit through the nonprofit I
founded called RICHES. </span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: Why do you think young adults aren't aware of the basic fundamentals of building and maintaining credit?</b><b> </b></span></li>
</ul>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>N:</b> I think
that many young adults don't know much information on building and
maintaining credit because this isn't a topic at the dinner table.
Overall, it has become the norm for black people to have poor credit. We
joke about it...we accept it. My parents always told me that it was
important to pay my bills on time. But I didn't know why. I didn't have
the knowledge for myself. That's the problem with a lot of the people
that I have interacted with or have contacted me for help. Their parents
never told them about building credit. They just assumed it was
something that they would learn on their own.</span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2XM-1zHJKoOjqESDI4JfrhbUXoDBLhgZf4RFvHG1JlbBwm3ckp4CtFIJP82oHJu7xQS-qokaZrtgo1As2CGjVenHuJLO14cDREZbfdqEO-5SICumL-0C3fDkqjHV7GpC1Jzlwk6HKNNs/s1600/47ee2f5e-458a-11e3-8af0-12313d14d0cd-large.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2XM-1zHJKoOjqESDI4JfrhbUXoDBLhgZf4RFvHG1JlbBwm3ckp4CtFIJP82oHJu7xQS-qokaZrtgo1As2CGjVenHuJLO14cDREZbfdqEO-5SICumL-0C3fDkqjHV7GpC1Jzlwk6HKNNs/s1600/47ee2f5e-458a-11e3-8af0-12313d14d0cd-large.jpg" height="250" width="320" /></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">My freshmen year in college, I was convinced by a
certain bank to fill out a credit card application in exchange for a
free box of pizza. As a hungry and broke college student, it really
didn't take much convincing. I didn’t take into consideration the fact
that I was giving out personal information without caution and literally
asking for possible identity theft. I also didn’t take into
consideration what could happen once I got that credit card in the mail. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Needless to say, I hurt the credit score that my
parents built for me. Although, it was a small credit line, it turns out
that I was not able to consistently pay my credit card bill on time
each month. And I had no clue what an APR was. Go figure. Knowing that I
planned to graduate college and that one day I would need that 770
credit score I once had, I managed to rebuild my credit. It took a lot
of research, work, credit disputing but I was able to do it. </span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: Considering most people are afraid to fail,especially when starting a business, what is your take on failing?</b></span></li>
</ul>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>N:</b> I
have always been afraid of failing. In most cases, people who are
afraid to fail put their dreams and aspirations to the side to avoid embarrassment, shame, and inadequacy. But because I know that I have a
God-given purpose, which is RICHES, I am well aware that failure is not
an option. </span></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I know that I will have obstacles to face and I may fail at a
few things, but the vision that I have for RICHES' future and role in our
society, Atlanta specifically, is bigger than what most can imagine. The
possibility of failure should be a motivation to operate in excellence
and be great.</span></div>
<div dir="ltr">
</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li><b><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">B: Currently you have a corporate job, how do balance work life and preparing for the launch of your non-profit?</span></b></li>
</ul>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>N:</b> I am in a fortunate position where
I work for a company that serves people like me, who want to help their
community. I am constantly learning at my job and being mentored by our
consultants. They motivate me and believe in what I am doing as well. I
also have the opportunity to meet with other non-profit leaders who have
been doing this for a long time. </span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I live by To-Do Lists. I survive on
planners, calendars, sticky notes, notepads, cute little whiteboards,
and the amazing CARROT app for the iPhone. Trying to launch the website,
programs, and events for RICHES while working a corporate job AND doing
ministry work for my church is a challenge. But it's a good challenge
because it is all fulfilling and I love every minute of it. It never
really seems like work to me because I enjoy doing it all!</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B: What do you hope to accomplish through RICHES?</b></span></li>

<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>N</b>: Through RICHES, I want to bring
up a generation who understands that you don't need to be wealthy in
order to be rich. My parents didn’t have everything but their credit
gave them access to anything. My personal experience and research on
credit, credit building, credit repair, and credit management has
created a burden in me to educate the black community and to bring up a
generation that have the desire to take ownership and responsibility of
their credit so that they, and their descendants, can be economically
successful. It's important that we shift the focus on money and bling to
a movement of philanthropic values and generosity. It's time that we
make a change in our community and it starts with this generation.</span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>N:</b> The RICHES brand is creativity, fun, young,
energetic, and revolutionary. There is only one artist that comes to
mind when I think of all of this; Janelle Monae. The song that best
describes our brand is Cold War. </span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">To me, the song reminds me that a
revolution starts with one. And at times when you get tired and weary,
remember what you're fighting for. She says, "Bring wings to the weak
and bring grace to the strong; May all evil stumble as it flies in the
world; All the tribes comes and the mighty will crumble; We must brave
this night and have faith in love." Makes you want to conquer the world!
Love it.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It has been 5 months since I chucked
the deuces and it has been an enriching experience. The first three
months, I was running around the city, working really hard until I’d
eventually burn out for about two days. I was working harder for
sure, but not smarter. And this happens to many entrepreneurs
starting out. I recently sat back and really made some adjustments to
work smarter. Here are some ways you can too<i><b>:</b></i></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>Don’t
put all of your eggs in one basket.</i></b> When I only focused on
styling, I realized I was ignoring all of the other talents &
experience I gained not only on set but also at my full time job.
You too may be ignoring your expertise and more importantly various
streams of income! Instead of banking on one thing to bring in the
bacon, develop several streams of income that you can manage. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>Set work hours</i></b>. There’s
the popular phrase “You don’t grind, you don’t shine.” But
if you don’t </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">get sleep, you’re certainly going to run yourself
into the ground. Determine your peek hours of productivity and
create intervals where you work with no interruption. It will give
you an opportunity to rest in between.</span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i><b>1 project/per day.</b> </i>If you
experience a plateau like I did at one point, the best thing is to
fall forward. Make it your job to do one thing a day that will help
you towards accomplishing your goals. Regardless of how big or
small, you’ll feel accomplished and better for doing it.
</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i>Work outside of the “office”.
</i>It is really easy to stay inside and work on your computer all
day. However, sometimes you may just need a change in scenery. Head
to your local coffee shop or bistro and do some work for a few
hours. It’ll be a nice change of pace and you’ll get some fresh
air.
</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b><i>Update your portfolio/website.</i></b>
When I realized I have the ability to provide retail-consulting
services, I wrote down in my journal “How can I get the word out?”
Until one day I was listening to a webinar hosted by Rosetta Thurman
of Happy Black Woman. When she first started, she had a link on her
blog that read, “Hire Me” Those two words hit me like a light
bulb. As simple as the phrase is, it certainly lets people know you
are providing a service. Make sure you update your website to have
the most updated information so potential clients know how to
contact you.<i> </i></span>
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i><b>Knowledge is Power.</b> </i>You are no
longer chained to the hours of 9 to 5. Now is your opportunity
to attend any webinar or seminar that can benefit you. Attending two
webinars helped me understand the power of effective selling and
realize I can use several streams of income. Knowledge is valuable
to helping you grow your business. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It has been 3 long years, but songtress Jazmine Sullivan is back!! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I can still remember feeling crushed by her tweets in 2011. (In case you missed them, I added the tweets below. Read from the bottom up):</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<img alt="" src="http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h164/ybfchic/Jan%202011/Picture201_10.png" /><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I'm super glad that's over now and that </span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">one of my fav's is back just in time for the summer</span>! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The Queen of the Relationship Anthems has returned with a new song called</span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> "Dumb" that features a verse from rapper Meek Mill. On the track she sings about a triflin <strike>man</strike> <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOVY5pxSwjM" target="_blank">boy</a>* who's been playing games with her and cheating. As Sweet Brown so eloquently put it, "Ain't nobody got time for that"! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">In
an interview with <a href="http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-juice/6092148/jazmine-sullivan-is-completely-finished-with-reality-show-album" target="_blank">Billboard</a> the 27-year-old confirmed that she's
finished with her third album, Reality Show, and I hope it drops later this
year!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">If you're wondering why the internets aren't going nuts about Sullivan's return, it's probably because the week the track was
released, Solange went HAM on Jay-Z and the media made it seem like
there was no other news to report. (WOMP!) </span><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Check out her first single from Reality Show below!</span> </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I usually don't post about my family or other personal things,besides this post grad life I'm living, but I just thought I'd leave this here.</span><br />
<br />
<i><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The text below was written on June 19, 2011</span></i><i><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><i><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> (Father's Day)</span></i> on my Tumblr page...</span></i><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The past couple of years have NOT been easy. I sit and think about how
much of a brat I was to you. You gave me tough love and TLC even when I
didn’t want it from you. I hurt your feelings many times, tried shutting
you away from me for no reason, and yet you continued to be there for me
anyway. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Sure you whooped me even when I was in high school, took my
door off the hinges, threw a paper towel roll at me and wished you had
something harder to throw (lol) but every day you would remind me how
much you loved me and would miss me when I went off to college. You even
asked if we could do daddy/daughter stuff before I left, but of course, I
was so wrapped up in wanting to leave the house that I didn’t want to
do anything with you or mommy. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The month before my 18th birthday we didn’t speak (for who knows what reason), and you
still picked me up from school even though I could’ve walked;
and gave me lunch money when I could’ve packed a lunch or ate nothing…</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span><br />

friend. When I knew I couldn’t go to mommy to talk to about things you
were always there to listen. When I thought I was Picasso you took me to art classes; when I decided to join Yearbook in high school you supported me by driving me around town to businesses to buy ads (which I won a limo ride for because I sold the most ad spaces); whenever I had to cheer at a game, you were there; and you even took me 2 hours away to go see my favorite singer,
Chris Brown, in concert and sat outside for 4 hours waiting on it to
finish. I ask myself all the time what kind of parent would do that?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Now that I’ve realize how blessed I was to have such an
AWESOME dad that cared about me and was an active part in my life, my
<i><b>WHOLE</b></i> life, I really wish I had the opportunity to tell you thank you
for all you ever did for me and that I’m sorry for all those bad times we spent that don't mean a thing now. Not everyone is fortunate enough to even live in a two parent household, and I wish I wouldn't have taken that for granted. </span><br />

I’m
truly greatdul to have had you as my dad for 19 years. Although I wish you were here <strike>so I could annoy you</strike>, especially during big moments in me and mommy's lives, I know that as every day goes by I’m just one day closer to hearing your voice again, being embraced
by your big bear-like hugs and seeing that big ol’ smile on your face. Happy Father’s Day in heaven, daddy!</span><br />

I really enjoy developing and producing creative projects for my clients, but I would never get to that point without sales (business). </span><br />

<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B:</b> What was the process like starting your own boutique creative agency, GMN Artistic, Inc.?</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>G:</b> I started my boutique creative agency, GMN Artistic, in 2002 right before graduating with my undergraduate degree. My mother encouraged me to open my own business and she and my aunt helped me through the process of incorporating. My mother told me to pray about what I wanted the business to become and it would develop in His time. It took quite some time to get it going but, she was right. </span><br />

<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> <b>B:</b> What does a typical day look like for you?</span></li>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b></b></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>G:</b> A typical day for me starts by cuddling with my two-year-old daughter, Riley, followed by breakfast and a car ride to work/school. The rest of my day is a whirlwind and 12 hour work days are very typical for me. I spend my day developing client projects, prepping the studio, selling new projects, e-mails, phone calls, meetings, location scouting, editing and shopping for props and wardrobe. There's a Starbucks stop somewhere in the day - Doppio Espresso Macchiato, dry with extra non-fat foam! The West Broward baristas already know it!</span><br />

<li><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>B:</b> What advice would you give those who are thinking about entrepreneurship?</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>G:</b> Entrepreneurship is exciting, rewarding, but extremely high risk. If you are ready to invest most of your time, energy and money into your vision - go for it! Seeing years of dedication, development, training and investment grow is absolutely mind blowing! I will admit my biggest growth spurt happened when I re-dedicated my life to God. I placed my life and business in His hands. His timing and abundant gifts are truly gracious. When you do it for Him, it's a game changer. </span><br />

<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbn2KuLq483Np3HZbb-QGKHDwDbPDLdNIkh2anImZdkcZ-n9e03WdVKjTUPr5eKZz7txmTCBanbREN9oNXEitIif8_c5YjqjBbi_fe0LS8ts8_mHstRjUbxGUogXykWyMP6yE4KwSfRlM/s1600/1396652375-dealing-feelings-how-emotionally-aware-leader.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbn2KuLq483Np3HZbb-QGKHDwDbPDLdNIkh2anImZdkcZ-n9e03WdVKjTUPr5eKZz7txmTCBanbREN9oNXEitIif8_c5YjqjBbi_fe0LS8ts8_mHstRjUbxGUogXykWyMP6yE4KwSfRlM/s1600/1396652375-dealing-feelings-how-emotionally-aware-leader.jpg" height="255" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I often say that my life is like a roller coaster of emotions.
And I think I have my journey as a small business owner to thank for
that. Some days I'll wake up and feel so excited and ready to take over
the world and then the next day I may be a total bucket of tears and not
want to get out of bed. But it comes with the territory of being an
entrepreneur and TRUST ME it is all worth it! Here are a few emotions
you will probably experience through your entrepreneurial journey!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>JOY!</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">You are doing
what you love and profiting off of it! These little moments are what
will remind you that even though this journey may be hard, it is all so
worth it! Make sure you write these moments down to reflect on when
times get rough.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Sadness.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">These are
the days where it will be hard to get out of bed because something in
your business isn't going as planned. Don't let those moments be the
deciding factor on if you should keep going or not. I promise it won't
last forever!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Fear.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Whenever you
are doing something out of your comfort zone you will experience fear.
Remember that fear is just an emotion and it can't hurt you. Let that
fear fuel you to get up and press towards your dreams!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Confident.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Not many
people can say that they get to do something that they genuinely love
for a living. Being an entrepreneur definitely will give you an extreme
boost of confidence.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Loneliness.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Starting
a business is rough and will easily take up ALL of your free time.
Sitting behind a computer or working on your craft for hours on hours
can begin to feel lonely. It is important that you make some time to get
out and enjoy your life with family and friends.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Excitement!</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This is
one of my favorite emotions that I've experienced since starting my
business. You know that feeling at the pit of your stomach you get when
you are expecting something amazing to happen? Imagine getting that
feeling almost everyday! Being an entrepreneur is fun and is so exciting
knowing that you are building an empire!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">There will be rough days and days that will really
make you question if this journey is for you. But like I said, TRUST ME
it will all be worth it! Keep going and keep working through those hard
times!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Just last week I was talking to a few people about how great music was in the 90's/00's and wondering what one of my fav singers, Mya, has been up to. I swear it's like as soon I spoke about her, she graced us with her presence via Youtube!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Mya is celebrating 16 years in the game and, as part of a '<a href="http://thatgrapejuice.net/category/sole-sessions-2/" target="_blank">Sole Sessions</a>' series on <a href="http://thatgrapejuice.net/">ThatGrapeJuice.net</a>, she sang acoustic versions of some of her 90's jams ("Moving On" and "Best of Me") and even a new track, "Super Woman". The new song comes from her recent and appropriately titled EP, <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/sweet-xvi-ep/id851064413" target="_blank">Sweet XVI</a>. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The singer also sat down for an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMHhL8f8eFc#t=73" target="_blank">interview</a> saying, "I feel like I'lm just starting. I have so much that I want to bring to this next phase of my life." I hope the "net phase" includes a new album *insert emoji eyes* and I also hope it includes more acoustic songs, because I love this sound!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I wasn't quite sure which video to include to this post so I added two. Check out the greatness that is Mya below!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I'm really loving her new song! What are your thoughts? </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This month, All She Wrote will focus on entrepreneurship! It seems, to me at least, that Millennials are all about creating a way when there isn't one (and that is something that I love about us)! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So get ready for a month full of features and blog posts from some pretty awesome entrepreneurs! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This past weekend Miss Ariana Grande released a visual for her new song, "Problem". The song features a verse from our favorite Australian bombshell, Iggy Iggs and interestingly enough, some added whispers from rapper Big Sean. According to<a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/547111/ariana-grande-drops-problem-video-featuring-iggy-azalea-and-big-sean-watch-now" target="_blank"> E! Online</a>, "Problem" (which was released back in April) was already sitting at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this weekend, so why not drop the visual too?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">In the video the Sam and Cat star gives us 1960's realness with her dance moves, white boots, and big hair via Iggy. Grande even spins on a circular platform all while effortlessly telling her ex boo she's got one less problem without him. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">While I'm still trying to figure out why Big Sean is whispering on the track, you can check it out below. </span><br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="_GoBack"></a>You’re done.
That piece of paper symbolizing years of caffeine overloads, too-many
page papers and impressive procrastination skills is within your
reach… or at least tucked under a bunch of other important
documents. Maybe you’re right in the thick of it, a sophomore or
junior in college debating if you should change your major <i>again</i>.
You know the opportunities for your future are limitless, but you
can’t figure out if you should pursue your personal interests or
follow the typical career path for your major. Trust me, you are
definitely not alone. There are tons of people trying to hone in on
their career desires. Here’s a little secret from me to you:
informational interviews can provide all the answers you need.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Informational interviews are unique
opportunities to build relationships and gain insight from
professionals in your desired career fields. Imagine networking, but
only with people <i>you choose</i> to seek out. Maybe you can’t
choose between becoming an engineer or a career as a tour manager for
live events. Informational interviews allow you to reach out to a
variety of people with differing perspectives to solidify your
choice. The best part? You’re in control of the conversations.
Asking industry insiders questions about their experiences means no
pressure for you!</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Before you brag to your colleagues
about your newfound knowledge, it’s important to know how to seek
out professionals and properly conduct an informational interview.
Below are some tips to get you started on your journey towards Career
Nirvana.
</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Find Your Passion and Remember
Your Major</b></span></div>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">If you had to do two things every
day for the rest of your life what would you do? Ask yourself this
question to determine your passions. For instance, I would listen to
music every day. Once you’ve established those two things, get to
Google. Do research on job titles and positions that align with your
interests. Don’t forget to also look up potential positions that
correlate to your major. It’s good to have varying options.
Besides, you should put that degree to use if you can!</span><br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>LinkedIn Is Your Best Friend</b></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It’s time to get well acquainted
with this genius networking tool (<i>If you don’t have a LinkedIn
account, stop reading and create one NOW. If you do, please continue).</i>
LinkedIn is a great way to connect those researched job titles to a
name and face. Using the Advanced Search option, you can look up
keywords like “Marketing Coordinator” or “Sales Associate”, a
company’s name, industry and even locations to identify a person or
people that fit those terms. Genius, right? You can connect with an
individual or use the InMail feature to send personal messages and
reach out. If you feel more comfortable using your personal email
account, simply Google the person to find their email address or the
format for the company email addresses.
</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">“<b>Looking for
Enlightenment, Not Employment”</b></span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">When you are finally
ready to reach out to a professional, it is important to remember
that informational interviews are for enlightenment and NOT
employment purposes. This means keeping your resume to yourself
unless someone specifically asks for it. When sending an email, make
sure to state who you are and why you are reaching out in the body of
the text and subject line. Include your email address and telephone
number so they have options for future communications. Request only a
short amount of their time, about 15 minutes, if you choose to talk
over the phone. Remember, be concise; this individual may read a
million emails a day.
</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Set Aside Time and
Money for Travel</b></span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I have personally
conducted informational interviews in places where I hope to start my
career. If you would like and have the means to do so, set up an
in-person informational interview with someone in your ideal
location. Be sure to do this a few weeks in advance and specify how
long you will be in the city in your initial email. I went to New
York City last summer to explore and set up informational interviews
prior to the visit. It was a great way to learn about my interests,
how the industry thrives in the big city and what challenges were
present in that location. You can also do in-person interviews
locally and Skype is definitely a cost-efficient tool. Propose
whatever options you would like in your initial email.
</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Ask Plenty of Good
Questions</b></span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">You’ve done all of
the background work to set up an amazing informational interview.
Don’t forget to ask great questions! Because this form of
interviewing is pretty informal, feel free to ask about the things
you truly don’t know. This could include obstacles, prior job
experiences, work expectations, salaries (don’t ask the interviewee
their specific salary, just the industry standard!), etc. The goal is
to gain as much insight as possible and develop a relationship with
real-life conversations.
</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><b>Follow Up
Consistently</b></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Informational interviews are great
for networking and having open discussions but the communication
shouldn’t stop once the interview is over. Immediately send a thank
you note with specific points from the conversation. Make a genuine
effort to keep in contact with your connections on a consistent
basis. You never know when you’ll need more advice or how you can
equally benefit one another.
</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0.14in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Informational interviews are very
helpful for those who truly want to discover the next step in their
career. Like many other things, you have to make the most of an
informational interview and the people you choose to speak with.
You’ll be surprised by how many people are willing to share their
stories and professional experiences with students. It’s never too
late to be educated by those who are living your dreams. Keep in mind
that you also don’t have to wait until you’ve graduated to reach
out for these opportunities. The earlier, the better. So go for it,
ask and you shall receive. </span><br />
